Prime Minister John Key will this morning announce details of the new spending that will be in next week's budget for science, research and development.
He told a National Party conference yesterday that science would be "at the heart" of the May 20 budget.
"We know that New Zealand companies have time and again proven themselves to be world beaters," he said.
"The challenge for us is to get more of our firms using science, research and technology to deliver more valuable products and services."
Mr Key said that would lead to better-paid jobs and the Government was making it a priority area for new spending.
He will announce the science spending in a speech at Te Papa in Wellington at 10am.
