The New Zealand marine industry believes the America's Cup shows it can take on the world if companies work together.
Speaking on TV3's The Nation, the executive director of the Marine Industry Association Peter Busfieldsaid he was "devastated" Team NZ didn't win, but said there were still positives to take from the Cup.
It was important to remember our country of four million people took on the world's largest developed country, which has over 260 million people.
"They had to employ New Zealanders to defend the Cup."
Mr Busfield said this showed how working together, New Zealand was able to form the best conglomerates to take on the world.
"We couldn't have got that advertising any other way than the performance of Emirates Team NZ and the Kiwis in Oracle and Luna Rossa."
He said the lessons from America's Cup could be applied across all industries.
"I've never seen the country so unified from all cultures, from all political standpoints behind this America's Cup campaign.
"If we could take that energy into being focused on raising the living standards for all New Zealanders and everything we do, in education, in research and development, in better business practices, in a more collaborative approach for New Zealand getting ahead in this world."
