Private Bin happens to live adjacent to a primary school (oh, the quiet on the weekends! Tis bliss!), it was a shock to come home from a weekend away recently to find a new building had sprung up just over the back fence.
Hours spent idly gazing at clouds – or stars, depending on the time of day - reclined in her favourite chair on the back porch had been sent to hell in a handcart.
Who wants to look at a standard issue school-house to relax in the evening?
Not to mention the amount of sun it blocked – the neighbours will be sorely disappointed that Private Bin’s topless Sunday afternoon tanning sessions have been forced to come to a close.
Surely the value of the house will have taken a hammering now that the expansive sky-scape has been replaced with a classroom.
Private Bin rang said school, raged and ranted but was stonewalled.
As for Auckland City Council, well, there aren’t enough hours in the day to wait on hold to be heard by some minion in a call centre (you’d be bitter too if you spent as much time on the phone as a journalist).
Three weeks after the building had been erected, Private Bin received a letter in the mail from Auckland City Council.
It was just a wee note to notify us about some building activity that would be taking place at the neighbouring property due to a recently issued consent.
Too little, too late.
Oh, and, it would like some more money for rates too thanks.
Sigh.
