Corporates can be sued on climate change, Supreme Court rules
An Appeal Court ruling striking out a claim against seven companies over their greenhouse gas emissions is overturned.
Big dairy farmer Dairy Holdings is among the defendants in the claim by Northland man Michael Smith.
A lawsuit claiming damage from greenhouse gas emissions by several major corporates, including Fonterra, Genesis and Dairy Holdings, can go ahead after the Supreme Court overturned a ruling by the Appeal Court in 2021.
