Sony New Zealand is moving all of its New Zealand companies into a single office, effective this month.
Sony New Zealand (consumer electronics), Sony Mobile Communications (the cellphone division, from which Ericsson was recently bought out), Sony Pictures, Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment (the PlayStation division) will all operate from the same leased office based at Level 1, 100 Ponsonby Road in the central Auckland suburb of Ponsonby.
The company's consumer electronics division was previously in Northcote on Auckland's North Shore, with other divisions scattered around.
In its 2011 fiscal year, the Sony NZ consumer electronics reported a loss of $3 million, an improvement over the $10 million lost in 2010.
Revenue increased to $155 million from the prior year's $151 million.
The PlayStation division reported a profit of $555,000 (up from $466,000 last year) on $41.3 million (up marginally from $43 million in 2010).
In its most recently reported year, 2010, Sony Music NZ made a $2.5 million profit (up from 2010's $1.6 million) on revenue that was flat at $23.3 million (from the prior year's $23 million).
For 2011, Sony Pictures NZ reported a $172,000 loss - against a $186,000 profit in 2010 - on $23 million revenue. In 2010, the division reported $31 million revenue.
Last month, Sony's global operation reported a record annual loss of $US5.74 billion, but said it expects to return to profit this year.
New CEO Kazuo Hirai said the company would cut 10,000 jobs, or 6%, of its worldwide workforce.
Sony NZ had no immediate comment on whether its office consolidation was coupled with redundancies.
