McDonald’s has released a campaign to tempt Kiwis to head into its restaurants for the return of the McRib.
The burger has been off the menu for over 12 years and is only available for a limited time.
The McRib restoration was teased twofold on McDonald’s social media platforms: a rib sauce kiss mark on a napkin and a short video of a guy warming up for a dance session with ‘things are getting saucy’ written on the wall.
The teasers were followed up a couple of days later with a 90-second TVC, which features an ordinary guy pulling off some dance moves in a studio for a minute, and then being drenched in rib sauce.
The film was executed by DDB’s video production house, Maker, and is designed especially for Facebook.
The McRib has made a return to the fast food brand’s menus after thousands of people asked for its return via social media.
DDB executive creative director Shane Bradnick says, “We wanted to share that feeling many McRib-lovin’ fans get when they take a bite of the burger and that sauce hits them – and then exaggerate it completely!”
McDonald’s NZ head of marketing Jo Mitchell says, “This fun campaign is something a bit different for McDonald’s but really speaks to the messy McRib eating experience as well as the humour of the blokes, and ladies, who can’t get enough of it.”
