Retail sales figures due this week risk disappointing the market in the same way weak retail sales data in the US on Friday led to a hammering of retail shares.

US retail sales rose a less-than-expected 0.4% in April as lower-than-expected same-store sales at JC Penny pushed its shares down 14%
