Meridian Energy chief executive Tim Lusk will step down later this year after three years in charge of the state-owned power company.
The company says a global search will begin immediately for a replacement for Mr Lusk, who was appointed in May 2008.
Meridian chairman Chris Moller paid tribute to Mr Lusk for his contribution to the company as both a board member and then chief executive over a period of six years.
Mr Moller said the board was very appreciative of the commitment made by Mr Lusk to assist the company during the forthcoming transitional period.
He also praised the leadership provided by Mr Lusk, who had “driven comprehensive business transformation during a period of significant change in the electricity market and business environment nationally and internationally.”
