Metlifecare [NZX: MET], the listed retirement village operator, has appointed former SkyCity Entertainment Group executive Richard Callander to its senior management team.
Callander will join the Auckland-based company as its general manager of operations in January next year, Metlifecare said in a statement. He was previously the general manager at SkyCity's two Queenstown casinos, and has been with casino operator for the better part of 16 years, according to his LinkedIn profile.
The retirement village operator is focusing on premium top and central North Island sites, such as Hamilton, Auckland and Bay of Plenty, having sold its Christchurch development land and its Nelson Oakwoods village in 2013. The retirement village operator is sitting on a land-bank of more than 1,000 units and care beds and is further expanding, particularly in Auckland where it is spending $200 million on two new villages in Auckland's North Shore, on the expectation the 65 year old plus population will double to more than a million people by 2036.
Shares of Metlifecare last traded at $4.33 and have gained 9.3 percent since the start of the year, underperforming the NZX 50 Index's 15 percent advance.
