Mighty River Power today announced the appointment of Kevin Angland to the position of GM Digital Services.

Chief Executive Fraser Whineray says the new role, announced in December 2015, is an important addition to the Company’s leadership team as part of its focus on delivering customer-driven innovation.

“Kevin brings a breadth of experience in customer-led technology and a proven record of success with some of New Zealand’s biggest technology projects.”

Mr Angland, NZ CIO of the Year in 2014, has held senior leadership positions with New Zealand’s largest insurer IAG NZ over the past decade, most recently as its Chief Information Officer, overseeing the development and integration of technology platforms for some of New Zealand’s best-known insurance brands including State, AMI and NZI.

“There are strong parallels between our business and the insurance sector with customers firmly front of mind and the increasing importance of data and digital platforms to deliver value to customers,” says Mr Whineray.

Mr Whineray says the appointment of a New Zealander to the role showed the level of talent in the technology sector locally.

Mighty River Power has announced it will be moving to a single new Mercury brand later this year as part of its strategic focus behind one brand.

Mr Angland will join the Company later this year.

Mr Whineray says recruitment is progressing for the second new role of Chief Marketing Officer, with an appointment expected to be made in the coming months.
