Agriculture Minister David Carter met Prince Charles at Balmoral on Friday to discuss ways to increase the demand for wool.
Prince Charles is leading the Campaign For Wool, which Mr Carter said mirrored the Government's efforts to get New Zealand's industry back on track.
"The Prince of Wales is a champion of the efforts of Commonwealth farmers to grow wool and restore profitability to the sector," he said today.
"This was a significant opportunity to discuss increasing the demand for wool, recognising its qualities as a naturally renewable and sustainable product."
Mr Carter said Prince Charles was a passionate advocate for wool and had been keen to hear about efforts being made to ensure consumers understood its benefits.
"After some tough years, prospects are beginning to look up for the wool sector and this meeting was another important step in that process," he said.
