National is back to its 50%-plus rating in an opinion poll taken after last month's budget and released tonight.
The New Zealand Roy Morgan poll put National on 52.5%, up four points, while Labour lost 3.5 points and went down to 30%.
"The budget included significant cuts to income tax...and appears to have found strong approval from the New Zealand electorate, despite an offsetting slight increase in GST," said the poll's commentary.
"This week's strong performance has driven National to its highest result in the New Zealand Roy Morgan poll since February 2010 and shows the opposition Labour Party has a long way to go to mount a serious challenge to Prime Minister John Key."
Other recent surveys have shown a drop in National's support of four to five points.
Tonight's poll show small gains for some of the minor parties.
The Greens were up half a point to 9.5% while the Maori Party gained one point and went up to 3.5%.
Act was down 1.5 points to 1% and United Future was unchanged on 0.5%.
The poll questioned 902 voters.
