The search is on for the most exciting and innovative arts sponsorship partnerships which have taken place in New Zealand over the last twelve months.

The National Business Review Sponsorship of the Arts Awards, now in their thirteenth year, acknowledge partnerships between business and the arts that demonstrate a high level of creativity, commitment and vision, as well as important business benefits.

Last year the Supreme Award winner of the Awards was Fiona Campbell for her personal philanthropy in funding the Real Art Roadshow through the Real Art Roadshow Trust. The project, which takes art to schools around New Zealand in purpose built gallery trucks, was seen as visionary not only in its inception but also in the way that it allowed for other sponsors to become involved either locally, regionally or nationally.

There were 23 entries in the NBR Arts Sponsorship Awards last year which ranged from the sponsoring of small local festivals through to major festivals and the support of significant arts organisations.

Five finalists were selected; Anderson Lloyd, Lawyers, NZ Listener, Staples Rodway, and The University of Otago along with the Real Art Roadshow Trust.

The convener of the judging panel , NBR arts writer John Daly-Peoples said finalists were chosen on the basis of being sponsors involved in arts partnerships which: delivered genuine business benefits to their own organisation as well as meeting the objectives of the arts partner. He said that high quality sponsorship demonstrated a high level of interaction and involvement on the part of the sponsor and the arts partner in the joint setting of common objectives as well as in the execution of the partnership.

“There are a number of sponsors who are good corporate citizen helping arts organisations. They are of great importance to the arts of the country. We are also looking for are those who are strategically focussed to achieve results which enable the sponsor to gain significant benefits from the arrangement.” Those who see how they can assist the arts, contribute to New Zealand culture as well as enhancing their own position in society.”

Other factors included using the strengths and qualities of both parties for the benefit of the partnership, introducing new concepts and a creative approach to art sponsorship and setting an example of excellence and innovation in the process of the partnership.

Entries in the NBR Sponsorship of The Arts Awards close on October 15th and
the finalists will be announced in NBR on Friday November 26th.
