New High Commissioner to Tonga
Career diplomat Jonathan Austin has been named New Zealand's High Commissioner to Tonga, Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully says.
Career diplomat Jonathan Austin has been named New Zealand's High Commissioner to Tonga, Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully says.
Dr Austin, who is foreign affairs advisor to Mr McCully, will take up the position in August.
Current High Commissioner Christine Bogle will return to Wellington.
New Zealand had a strong relationship with Tonga, Mr McCully said.
With Tonga implementing major constitutional and political reform it was an important time for New Zealand to assist the country, he said.
