Government agencies are going to have to tighten up the way they buy and use information communications technology (ICT), Internal Affairs Minister Nathan Guy says.
The government wanted to ensure the $2 billion a year spent on ICT was used wisely and represented value for money, he said today.
"A 2008 survey found that much of this ICT spend is fragmented and duplicated," he said.
"It's important that government agencies co-ordinate their planning, purchasing and delivery of ICT services."
Mr Guy said the cabinet had agreed on a new framework for ICT services which would replace the 2006 strategy.
