Fisher & Paykel Appliances has appointed Keith Turner as an independent director.

Mr Turner, who is based in Wellington, sits on the boards of Auckland International Airport (as deputy chairman), Spark Infrastructure, an ASX listed company as well as several unlisted companies.

Mr Turner is a former chief executive for Meridian Energy and the Electricity Corporation of New Zealand.

He was also the managing director of Design Power, a professional engineering consultancy firm, and served on the Market Surveillance Committee for the New Zealand electricity market. He holds a PhD in engineering and is a Distinguished Fellow of the Institute of Professional Engineers, New Zealand.

Fisher & Paykel Appliances chairman Ralph Waters said Mr Turner’s appointment is part of the board refreshment programme announced last year.

"Keith is well known throughout New Zealand business and government circles and has an impressive track record as both a director and chief executive officer, said Mr Waters.

"Keith’s engineering background, commercial, strategic and governance expertise will be valuable additions to the board."
