Tesing by US publication Consumer Reports has found the new iPad heats up "significantly" more than its predecessor.
Running games, Apple's new tablet can heat up to 116 degrees Fahrenheit (46.7 degrees Celsius) the well-regarded magazine says.
The ambeint room temperature was 72 degrees (22 degrees Celsius).
Consumer used a thermal camera (see picture right) to take front and rear images of the new iPad while it ran Infinity Blade II.
It found the new iPad was 12 to 13 degrees Fahrenheit hotter than the iPad 2 running the same tile - a difference it labeled "significant."
The new iPad was "warm but not uncomfortable" at its hottest.
Another issue: the new iPad did not charge, when plugged in, while the processor-intensive game was being played.
