A number of signs recently show mobile has overtaken desktop in areas like ad revenue (Facebook), search terms served (Google) and news site visits (Pew recently found 19 of the top 25 news sites have more mobile than desktop visitors). Mobile ad revenue in New Zealand is on a rapid rise, too.

Here's another sign of the mobile takeover.

The New York Times has banned staff from accessing the desktop version of its home page during what it calls "mobile week."

An assistant editor says it's all about empathising with readers, a majority of whom now visit the site on a mobile.
