Duncan Cotterill is delighted to announce the appointment of associate Katrina Hammon, who adds specialist expertise in retail, franchising and licensing to the team.

Katrina will be based in the Auckland office, but servicing clients across the breadth of Duncan Cotterill’s nationwide portfolio.

Formerly the senior legal counsel at SumoSalad Group and a senior associate at global firm Norton Rose Fulbright in Sydney, Katrina has a depth of experience in the retail sector with a focus on intellectual property, network growth and international expansion. Katrina has experience assisting retailers, manufacturers and suppliers with expansion to new and emerging markets in the APAC region, including India, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and Vietnam.

Katrina joins Duncan Cotterill amidst a period of exciting momentum that has seen five new hires and a series of internal promotions already this year.

“I’m excited to be back home in New Zealand and joining Duncan Cotterill as it enters a really positive growth phase. I’ve spent the past few years building my portfolio of work to include some of Australasia’s largest retail brands and I’m looking forward to seeing how my local and international experience can complement what is a really strong team,” Katrina says.

Katrina’s experience working both in-house and at a global law firm provides her with a unique dual perspective and invaluable knowledge on delivering commercial advice.

For more than two years, Katrina has worked in-house at SumoSalad, Australia’s largest and most awarded healthy fast food eatery with more than 100 sites in Australia and international sites throughout the United States, Brazil, New Zealand, Singapore and Dubai.

As sole legal counsel for SumoSalad Group, Katrina’s role included advising on corporate governance, joint ventures and partnerships, industry compliance, competition and consumer law, strategic advice and the management of its global network.

Duncan Cotterill partner Raewyn Lovett says, “Katrina is strategically minded and has strong commercial credentials. Her experience at both a domestic and international level, coupled with her specialist industry and market expertise, enables her to provide insightful legal advice that will generate great value for our clients.”

“We are really looking forward to having Katrina as part of our growing team here in Auckland as we look to enhance our client offering further with a move to a new office later this year,” Raewyn says.

Katrina will continue to work with international brands across both the Australian and New Zealand markets.

In October, Duncan Cotterill will relocate from its current premises in the CPO Building in Britomart, to the historic Australis Nathan Building.

Raewyn says the move will provide space for the expanding team and a dynamic environment for clients and staff.
