TelstraClear has launched a new 3G service for residential customers, headlined by a $20/month, two-year plan that offers 29 cent/minute calls to any national landline or mobile number, 500 free txts, and mobile data charged at a bracing 50 cents per megabyte.
The telco is saying that it moved up the launch to take advantage of Telecom's XT woes, but keen NBR readers will remember that TelstraClear originally promised to launch its 3G service before Christmas last year.
On February 4, TelstraClear launched a 3G service for business customers.
TelstraClear uses Vodafone's 3G network to deliver its mobile products, and any Vodafone-compatible handset will work on both services.
Previously, TelstraClear resold Telecom's CDMA service.
Unlike the TelstraClear-branded CDMA service, the new 3G offerings do not require you to have a TelstraClear landline.
Unlike Vodafone, TelstraClear is not offering to pay the Telecom break-frees for any XT customer looking to move to its 3G service.
TelstraClear head of NBN engagement Matthew Bolland declined to give target customer numbers.
But speaking at the time of the February 4 business launch, the company's head of customer experience, John Bone, told NBR that TelstraClear had "close to 30,000" mobile customers, and that it wanted to triple this to 100,000 within three years.
