An earthquake was widely felt around Auckland at 4.05pm this afternoon.
Geonet says the "moderate intensity" 3.9 magnitude jolt was at a depth of 6km, 15 km north-east of Auckland in the middle of Motutapu Island in the Hauraki Gulf (see Geonet map right).
Among those who felt the quake were Kim Dotcom, who tweeted:
Dotcom Mansion is shaking. Small #earthquake. Two in a row. No kidding. Not my fault. I'm in bed ;-)

The well-padded pirate-accused seemed to escape unscathed.
So did other super city inhabitants. There were no immediate reports of damage or injury, although the Fire Service reports car alarms were triggered in eastern suburbs.
The 3.9 magnitude quake was preceded by a "light density" 3.1 magnitude quake at a depth: 4 km, also 15 km north-east of Auckland.
