Focus Genetics has appointed two new directors, a reflection of the animal genetics firm’s growth in the New Zealand market, providing elite genetics in sheep, cattle, and deer to clients in New Zealand and internationally. Rick Cranswick and Professor Hugh Blair will join the existing board chair, Andrew MacPherson, and Warren Parker.

Rick Cranswick is a specialist in strategy, governance, and management. He has very strong financial acumen with ties to the rural sector and extensive commercial networks. Cranswick has built enduring relationships as a CEO, company director, and trustee working with organisations to achieve strategic objectives, respond to change, and lift organisational performance. He has real-world commercial experience assisting established and emerging rural-based companies and tech companies.

Professor Hugh Blair

Professor Hugh Blair’s specialist area is animal breeding and genetics; he has more than 40 years’ experience in the education, science, and agricultural sectors. Blair is internationally recognised for his work with a variety of commercial clients helping them to develop sheep breeding schemes nationally and internationally.

MacPherson said the specialist animal genetics company was established 10 years ago and it would continue to, “play a leading role in developing animals relevant to New Zealand’s farming future, particularly if New Zealand is to meet its climate change goals then improved genetics will play a leading role to achieve this.

“We are delighted to have Rick and Hugh join the board and have the opportunity to build the firm’s future together with them,” MacPherson said.
