NZ Blood Service appoints new CEO

The board of New Zealand Blood Service (NZBS) has appointed Samantha Cliffe as its new Chief Executive, replacing Fiona Ritsma who spent eight and a half years at the helm.

Ms Cliffe is a seasoned leader with more than 30 years’ experience working in the public health sector in New Zealand and the UK.

Starting her career as a registered nurse, Ms Cliffe has been at the forefront of the health services in the Auckland region, and for the past 10 years has held several senior level executive roles leading large teams in the areas of hospital service delivery, primary care and funding.

She has worked across a range of organisations including Counties Manukau District Health Board, the Northern DHB Shared Service Agency and the Ministry of Health. For the past two years, she has been an independent consultant specialising in working with both public and private health providers, and has been an independent director of healthcare organisations.
