A further three organisations have been designated as international terrorist groups under New Zealand's Terrorism Suppression Act.
They are the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the National Liberation Army (ELN) of Colombia and Harakat-ul Jihad al Islami of Bangladesh.
Prime Minister John Key said the designations help implement New Zealand's international obligations under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1373, which aims to prevent the activities of terrorists.
He said all three groups had carried out terrorist acts, including the indiscriminate killing of civilians.
Any assets held by the groups and found in New Zealand, either now or in the future, will be frozen.
It will also be a criminal offence to deal with their property or make property or financial services available to them.
Other support such as fund-raising and recruiting or harbouring terrorists is a criminal offence in New Zealand, regardless of whether a group is designated as a terrorist entity or not.
Mr Key said the designations were not a response to domestic terrorist threats in New Zealand, but formed part of the Government's support for the building of an international defence against terrorist activities.
New Zealand has now designated nearly 500 parties as terrorist groups or individuals.
