Gore farmer Neil Gardyne has won a leading Australasian business management award for the transformation of his mixed farm's operation.

Mr Gardyne has been presented with the 2010 Executive Development Program (EDP) management project award at the graduation of 34 leading primary producers from around New Zealand and Australia who recently completed the programme in Sydney.

The winning project, titled Expanding Our Horizons, focused on effectively re-allocating time and resources in his farming operation to both reduce overall workload and increase profit on several levels of the business.

His farm has 466 hectares of mixed sheep, cattle, and cereal crops, and in addition he runs a small business, Flashfert, selling coal ash as fertiliser.

Mr Gardyne said his management project aimed to increase profit from farming - while reducing the workload - so he could allocate time and money to building secondary businesses.
