A 28-strong delegation of New Zealand business leaders are currently in Delhi with Prime Minister John Key and Trade Minister Time Groser.
While the ultimate goal of the visit is to progress trade negotiations, Mr Key has said a rounded approach is needed to build the countries’ relationship, and growing business ties is a central focus.
Mr Key yesterday witnessed signing ceremonies for two memorandums of understanding across companies from both countries.
New Zealand-based health management software provider Medtech Global signed an agreement with Rajiv Gandhi Institute and Research Centre, while New Zealand’s Finzsoft extended its partnership with HCL Technologies.
Medtech executive chairman Vino Ramayah said under the new memorandum, the company would be assisting in the introduction of a new Indian Government for electronic personal health records.
“New Zealand is a world leader in the development and adoption of primary healthcare information technology,” Mr Ramayah said.
“Medtech believes there will be significant benefits for India’s healthcare sector in our relationship.”
Meanwhile, Finzsoft Solutions director Andrew Holliday said the agreement with HCL was extremely important, and would help expand business.
“For them to identify us as a world-class banking system that they want to promote globally is substantial,” he said.
Mr Holliday said he felt the business delegation had been received well since arriving in India on Sunday.
“India is about recognition, about having the respect for the people you’re dealing with. For the Prime Minister and the Minister of Trade to come with us is fantastic.”
