An agreement with peer organisations in Australia and the United Kingdom will help chartered accountants working in the public sector in the Asia-Pacific region, The New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) said today.

The NZICA and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) have signed a tripartite agreement with the UK based Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), a leading accounting body for the public services. In September NZICA and ICAA said they would work together on a number of projects.

The three institutes will adapt and jointly promote development opportunities, including continuing professional development courses for senior financial staff in the public sector and those providing services to the public sector. Additional public sector learning modules, already in use by CIPFA, will be tailored and developed for use by NZICA and ICAA.

"We recognise CIPFA's expertise and track record in supporting chartered accountants working in the public sector. We're keen to leverage this expertise and pass it on to our own members working in this professional space," said NZICA chief executive Terry McLaughlin.
