The NZX operates both debt and equity markets and sells information services. The total number of trades of 72,426 in May was up 40.7 percent from the same month a year ago and the value of trades was up 27.2 percent.
This broke down to a 45 percent rise in equity transactions and a 6.2 percent fall in debt trades. The value of equity trades rose 29.4 percent and the value of debt trades fell 11.1 percent.
A total of 171 equity securities were listed, down 4.5 percent on last year and a total of 110 debt securities were listed, down 7.6 percent.
The equity market had a capitalisation of $59.4 billion in May, up 15.1 percent on a year earlier.
The debt market had a capitalisation of $15.7 billion, down 0.6 percent on a year ago.
