There was no way of knowing if the New Zealand sharemarket was up or down this morning when market operator NZX experienced a failure in multiple hardware servers.
NZX said index feeds were disrupted as a result of the failure and were restored mid-morning.
Brokers contacted by NZPA did not want to talk about the failure, which is regarded as very embarrassing for the exchange.
NZX earlier advised that it was switching to its failover system for the settlement of trades and calculation of indices. The hardware failure did not affect connectivity to the trading system. There was no market interruption or change to trading conditions.
NZX said the failure in the servers, which are the mechanical platform upon which the market infrastructure operates, was unrelated to the implementation of its new Clearing House.
