Pacific Island Affairs Minister Georgina te Heuheu presented a Pacific business award last night to entrepreneurs and business owners and said their success was a sign of the future make up of the New Zealand economy.

"The entrepreneurial spirit is burning brightly among Pacific peoples," she said at the 25th anniversary of the Pacific Business Trust in Manukau last night.

Successful Pacific businesses were providing much needed jobs and prosperity around the country, she said.

"New Zealand needs our Pacific businesses to continue to grow and succeed and I'm confident this wonderful trend will continue, despite the slow recovery of the economy."

Mrs te Heuheu presented one of eight awards announced at the 2010 Manukau Institute of Technology Pacific Business Awards.

The winners included:

* Pacific Employer/Workplace - Cardinal Logistics

* Emerging Business Enterprise - Panorama Access and Hire Sales Ltd

* Young Pacific Entrepreneur - Matt Walker, CEO of Jobs.co.nz

* Pacific Exporter - Mena International Ltd

* Pacific Executive - Lorna Kumitau, Pacific Integrated Healthcare Ltd

* Pacific Business Woman - Jo Kerrison, Foxie Styles

* Pacific Business Person - Vinod Kumar, Magsons Hardware

* Pacific Business - Magsons Hardware

The inaugural Pacific Navigators Achievement Award was given to Stan Wolfgramm.
