The Pandey family is the force behind the country’s biggest hotel group, which has interests across New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Finland, the US and Fiji.
Since its incorporation in 1993, the C.P. Group has grown rapidly and amassed a considerable property portfolio. This includes owning a swath of blue-chip hotels belonging to the world’s most famous hotel brands – including Hilton and Sheraton in the US and Pullman and Ibis in New Zealand. The company owns 11 hotels in the US in total and three in Fiji.
The Group’s current local projects include two hotel developments in Napier, with those involved with the family saying it has a commitment to Hawkes Bay. It is also behind the SO/Auckland hotel, and is working towards a new hotel on the site of Christchurch’s old All Seasons hotel.
There has been a focus on the acquisition and redevelopment of properties, both hotel and commercial, which have diminished in performance and/or require significant works to reposition and enhance their value and economic performance.
The CP name stands for the initials of Charles Pandey, the family’s patriarch, who lives between Auckland, Australia and Singapore. The family maintains a low profile and operates more than 50 companies registered in various names.
