List MP Hekia Parata is the National Party's candidate for the Mana by-election.
The by-election has been forced by the resignation of Labour MP Winnie Laban, who has accepted a job at Victoria University.
Mrs Parata contested the seat in the 2008 election, coming in 6155 votes behind Ms Laban, who has held the seat since 2002.
"Hekia is a capable member of Parliament who will be standing on her record of working tirelessly for the people of Mana since becoming a Mana-based list MP in 2008," National Party president Peter Goodfellow said.
"She also has a broad range of life and work experience, which makes her the ideal person to represent the diverse Mana electorate."
Labour's chief press secretary and former TV One news reporter Kris Faafoi has confirmed he will seek selection to stand for Labour, whose nominations for the seat close tomorrow. Selection for Labour is on September 18.
