Wellington International Airport has appointed Steve Sanderson as its new chief executive, starting next year. Mr Sanderson is the Queenstown Airport chief executive. He will replace John Howarth, who has been acting chief executive since Steve Fitzgerald left to take up a role with Infratil’s manager, HRL Morrison & Co, in Sydney. 

Wellington chartered accountancy practice Curtis McLean has appointed two new associate directors, Stuart Darvill and Christy Burgess. Mr Darvill joined Curtis McLean in 2003 and Ms McLean joined six months later in early 2004, both after graduating from Victoria University.

Michelle Quirk has been appointed general manager of the NZ Gynaecological Cancer Foundation. Ms Quirk joins the foundation from her role as business development manager for educational charity First Foundation. Sarah Hutchings is moving from her role as general manager to the foundation’s board of trustees. Ms Hutchings has been general manager for the past two and a half years. Bridgette Jackson and Nicola Edwards have also been appointed to the board of trustees. Ms Jackson has a business and legal background. Ms Edwards has been working for the foundation in a volunteer capacity for a number of years. Jock Irvine became board chairman in April following the departure of Giselle McLachlan. Mr Irvine was previously a senior partner of Auckland legal firm Simpson Grierson.

Baseball NZ has added Mitre 10 chief executive John Hartmann to its national board. Mr Hartmann moved to New Zealand from the east coast of the US to take up his role with Mitre 10. Mr Hartmann joins Sky Television’s chief executive John Fellet, PricewaterhouseCoopers partner Jonathan Freeman and Hydraulink co-founder and partner Noel Davies on the board.

Sue Hamilton has joined Spark PR & Activate as group account director. She will oversee the Unilever portfolio. Ms Hamilton has run her own business, Hamilton Concepts, for the past 10 years, where tasks included managing Allyson Gofton’s affiliation with Food in a Minute.

Chorus has appointed Andrew Carroll chief financial officer for New Chorus. His appointment was conditional on shareholders approving the proposed Telecom demerger, which occurred on Wednesday. The appointment marks the completion of the New Chorus executive team, selected from within Telecom and Chorus. He has worked for Telecom since 2002, holding senior roles in corporate finance including financial strategy manager and head of mergers and acquisitions. He will be based in Chorus’ Wellington office.

Tony Mildon is Maersk Line New Zealand’s new director of sales. Mr Mildon, currently Maersk Line New Zealand’s external sales general manager, has worked in the container shipping industry for almost 20 years. He replaces Campbell Smith, who is moving to Turkey to become sales director for Maersk Line’s Black Sea operations.
