Accountancy firm Staples Rodway has appointed three directors: Mark Kingsford, Nigel de Frereand Mike Rudd. Mr Kingsford chairs the Staples Rodway national property and construction industry group. Mr de Frere joined Staples Rodway as an associate director in the audit and assurance services team in July 2011 and has more than 14 years’ audit experience with large firms, including four years working in London. Mr Rudd joined the Auckland office as an associate director in September 2011. He has had work experience around the world, including the UK.
Deloitte has appointed Ian Fayas a tax partner in the firm’s Wellington office. Mr Fay recently joined Deloitte, having spent the past 17 years in senior roles at leasing professional services firms in New Zealand and the UK.
WHK has appointed Scott Mason managing principal for tax consulting for New Zealand. Mr Mason has been a tax specialist for 22 years and was formerly head of tax for WHK in Otago and Southland.
Auckland litigator Murray Ashley GilbertSC has been appointed a High Court judge. Mr Gilbert is a trustee and board member of the National Maritime Museum and general committee member of the Royal Akarana Yacht Club. He graduated with an LLB from Auckland University in 1977.
JML Communications has appointed Jody Bews-Hair senior consultant, Helen Easson account manager and Cassia Bennett-Burkhardtaccount executive. Ms Bews-Hair has 15 years’ experience in marketing and communications industries and was previously the global web and communications manager for Company Living Nature. Ms Easson has six years’ experience in public relations and she was previously an account manager at Weber Shandwick. Ms Bennett-Burkhardt moves into her new role from the intern position she previously held at JML while completing a Bachelor of communication studies.
Rabobank has appointed Luke Chandlergeneral manager of its food and agribusiness research and advisory division in New Zealand and Australia. Mr Chandler returned from a three-year posting in Rabobank’s London office, establishing and heading the bank’s global agri commodity markets research team to take the new role. He will also retain his international role as global head of agri commodity markets research, responsible for managing the bank’s analysis and outlook for the world’s major agri commodities markets.
Bayleys Realty Group has appointed Greg Hornblow general manager. Mr Hornblow was previously with media company and publisher APN New Zealand as general manager of the company’s advertising sales division and also involved with the integration of digital and new media channels. Mr Hornblow replaces David Poole.
Minter Ellison Rudd Watts has appointed three new partners: Quentin Lowcay, Richard Gordonand Janine Stewart. Mr Lowcay has over 16 years’ experience in IT, technology, strategic outsourcing and procurement. He was previously a partner with Kensington Swan for four years, including managing partner of its office in Abu Dhabi. Mr Gordon has over 15 years’ litigation experience. Ms Stewart is a specialist in complex construction and commercial projects and disputes.
The Employers’ Chamber of Commerce Central (ECCC) has appointed John Wills on a three-month extendable contract as interim chief executive. Mr Wills’ career began in the NZ Police where he specialised in strategic responses to crime. He is currently on the Order of St John’s Greater Wellington District committee and was until recently its chairman.
Equico has appointed Phil Goodingeneral manager and Matthew Chamberlainoperations manager. Mr Goodin was formerly head of sales and marketing. Mr Chamberlain has had 10 years’ experience in the banking and finance industry in New Zealand and Australia. He was most recently the manager of lending and operations at Dorchester Finance.
Hawke’s Bay Tourism has appointed Rebecca McPhersonregional events manager. Ms McPherson will be responsible for co-ordinating all regional promotion marketing and event activity.
Grant Thornton New Zealand has appointed two new partners Michael Stewart(audit) and Simon Thorn(specialist advisory). Mr Stewart has had nine years’ experience in the US, working with a variety of public and private technology and financial services clients. Mr Thorn’s experience covers most industries.
Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) has appointed six associate professors including Peter Bray,Rachel Forrest, Carl Patonand MichaelVerhaartwho are based at EIT in Taradale while Steve Gibbsand Derek Lardelliare at Gisborne’s Tairawhiti campus. Mr Bray has a background in grief counselling. Mr Gibbs is a painter whose works have been exhibited nationally and abroad. Ms Forrest’s qualitative research has contributed to health research projects at EIT. Mr Lardelli works across a variety of art media and cultural consultancy roles. Mr Paton’s research interests in applied sport science have influenced training regimes and athletic performance internationally. Mr Verhaart’s research encompasses virtual teaching frameworks and online management systems.
Macaulay Metals has appointed Marty Roelofschief operating officer. Mr Roelofs has worked for the past 10 years for Vehicle Testing New Zealand.
Frog Recruitment has appointed Kathy McCombe general manager, development solutions. Ms McCombe has a background in recruitment and spent 16 years at Workchoice Trust where she was chief executive.
Kiwi Income Properties has appointed Angus McNaughtonexecutive director. Mr McNaughton has been with the group for more than 17 years and most recently was head of wholesale property funds at CFSGAM Property based in Sydney. He has market experience in funds management and asset management and development.
Plus4 Insurance Solutions has appointed Steve Tarpleyprincipal. An insurance broker and registered financial adviser, Mr Tarpley is the principal of Tarpley Insurances established in 2003.Before that he was a principal of brokerage company Crest Financial Brokers, which he and three other advisers set up in 1999.
Manukau Institute of Technology has appointed Christopher Theunissen associate dean – postgraduate for the Faculty of Business. Mr Theunissen has a background in management and political sciences and has also been involved in private education as dean of the School of Graduate Studies at AIS St Helens.
Development West Coast’s two independent trustees have been reappointed to the board for a further three years. Robert Buchananwas appointed by the New Zealand Law Society and Mark Lockington by the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Mr Buchanan is the deputy chairman and has been on the board since 2009. Mr Lockington has been a trustee since 2005 and is the chairman of the finance and audit committee and the Pike River Distribution Fund committee.
