The Overseas Information Office announced in its approval decisions last month that a local company called Grey Ghost Properties had sold a 1.8ha Dunedin site to Summerset Retirement Villages.
It will be majority-Australian-owned retirement village company Summerset’s first South Island site.
Private Bin was curious about Grey Ghost Properties, but a quick Companies Office search found the name wasn’t the only thing mysterious about this business.
Turns out, it didn’t exist. Spooky.
Private Bin asked Land Information how a phantom company had managed to sell a property in a $1.4 million deal.
“Thanks for your enquiry, and bringing this to our attention,” Crown Property and Investment general manager Brian Usherwood said.
“A review of the title for the property shows that the correct name is Grey Ghost Property Limited.”
Oops.
