Artist and philanthropist Fiona Campbell - winner of last year’s NBR sponsorship of the arts supreme award – is to join the Te Papa Tongarewa board.

Her Real Art Roadshow Trust takes art to schools around New Zealand, particularly in rural areas, in two purpose built gallery trucks.

The Real Art Charitable Trust, an associated trust, works to support artists and local galleries in a variety of ways, including assistance with overseas promotio.

Meanwhile, Sir Wira Gardiner, a founding director to the Waitangi Tribunal and chairman of the Tertiary Education Commission, has been appointed chairman of Te Papa.He was first appointed to the Te Papa board last year.

Sir Wira will replace outgoing chairman John Judge, who is the chairman of ACC.
