Receivers of Pike River Coal, where 29 miners were killed in a gas explosion in November, said all potential buyers had given assurances in indicative bids that body recovery would not be impeded by any sale.
Receiver Malcolm Hollis of PriceWaterhouseCoopers said in a statement this undertaking would be an important factor in evaluating bidders.
“The Receivers agree that nobody wants a sale of the mine to impede the potential recovery of the miners’ bodies,” Mr Hollis said.
“Equally however, we are confident that the paramount importance of mine stabilisation and the safety of potential recovery operations is recognised and that we must all take this process one step at a time.”
Mr Hollis said he expected potential purchases would want to reopen the mine and all reasonable steps, on a best endeavours basis, were likely be taken to recovery bodies.
