Prime TV has scored a major deal with BBC Worldwide to broadcast its content under a new documentary banner.

The long-term agreement will supply the banner, Prime Planet, with documentary content including The Story of China, Stephen Fry in Central America, Coast Australia, Rick Stein’s Long Weekends and two new travel series.

“Prime viewers love to find out about other countries and civilisations, so we felt it was time to dedicate a slot to these fascinating stories,” Sky’s head of Prime Karen Bieleski says.

“Who better to provide the initial impetus for Prime Planet than the BBC, with its unrivalled production values, impeccable research, and great presenting talent?”

Sky-owned [NZX: SKT] Prime has already secured a variety of other BBC content including Doctor Who, Antiques Roadshow and Top Gear.

“We have enjoyed a long-standing partnership with the BBC in New Zealand and this additional deal ensures Prime viewers have much to look forward to over the coming months,” acquisitions head Lisa Clements says.

The new shows will screen exclusively on Prime.
