Tonga's Solicitor-General Aminiasi Kefu will be the New Zealand Prime Minister's Fellow for Tonga this year.

Prime Minister John Key said Mr Kefu had strong legal and academic ties in New Zealand and would be able to foster those while on a visit from April 10-17.

"New Zealand is committed to supporting Tonga's democratic reform and I am pleased this visit will provide Mr Kefu with a number of public opportunities to speak about the role he is playing in this process," Mr Key said.

Mr Kefu will visit Hamilton, Auckland and Wellington.

The Prime Minister's Fellowship was established in 2008 and aimed to develop leadership and encourage personal friendships between New Zealand and Tonga.
