What is branded New Zealand's most glamorous car boot sale takes place in Auckland on Thursday.
Team McMillan BMW in Newmarket stages the Liggins Institute Trust's 2012 Couture Car Boot sale, an annual charity event that has raised almost $100,000 over three years.
The event is technically a sale as people cannot turn up and sell stuff from their cars. Instead, many goods are sold from the boots of Team McMillan's "Beamers".
The Liggins Institute Trust has received high-class donations of new and pre-loved fashion and accessories from Auckland's top boutiques and glitterati.
The money raised this year will go towards Professor Jane Harding's project on blood sugar problems in premature babies, which can lead to brain damage and the risk of diabetes later in life.
The event also features the Rolls-Royce ManZone, with product displays, tastings and cars as an alternative to the fashion retailing.
There will also be a silent auction. For the first time, it will allow bids to be made remotely to those who download an app to their smart phones from the Liggins Institute Trust website.
Team McMillan BMW and Mini managing director Ian Gibson says the company has a long-standing relationship with the trust.
"Boot Couture is probably at the top end of the fashion scale, with a lot of designer labels, local and international brands. We open the doors and people run straight to the racks, 200 to 300 ladies doing their shopping," he told NBR ONLINE.
The format is somewhat unusual – think recycled boutique crossed with a society cocktail party," Charlotte Swasbrook of the Liggins Institute Trust says.
The event isheld from 6pm to 9pm at Team McMillan's BMW showroom. Tickets are $30 for a 7pm entry, or $55 for VIP Tickets with preferential 6pm entry.
Unlike other car boot sales, bubbles and canapés are served on arrival.
