New Zealand's Rugby World Cup experience is to be the subject of a government report.

The Ministry of Economic Development (MED) has advertised for a suitably qualified consultant to help it produce a 15-page report highlighting the extent of the experience, ranging from the impact of additional international visitors that the tournament attracted to how New Zealanders supported both the tournament and the associated REAL New Zealand festival.

The report will also look at the promotion of business during the tournament and the overall experience of hosting a world class event with a global audience.

Tender documents released by MED said producing the report was part of New Zealand's host nation responsibilities.

"The decision to not write the report using wholly in-house or wider public sector staff is based on the judgement that an internationally recognised brand and perception of complete independence is required," the documents said.

The successful supplier will be able to draw on detailed information collated by MED from a wide range of sources, during and directly after the event, including insights from organisers, volunteers, government, local authorities, business and community groups.

The successful consultant will also be asked to interview a few key stakeholders.

The MED aims to appoint a consultant for the project by early October, while the report was due to be completed by March 2012 – allowing adequate reflection and data analysis.
