Saatchi & Saatchi typographer Eric De Vries died in the weekend while spear fishing.

Media reported the experienced spearfisherman, and father of three, failed to surface after spearing a kingfish on Hunter’s Bank, off the Kapiti Coast, on Saturday.

Saatchi & Saatchi chief executive Nicky Bell and Wellington general manager Livia Esterhazy said they were devastated by Mr De Vries’ death (52).

They said Mr De Vries was one of the “last true gentleman, hugely talented and passionate about his work, his family and his diving.”

The pair offered their condolences to Mr De Vries’ family, friends, the team in the Wellington office and those who knew him in the Auckland office.
