Satara Co-operative Group Ltd said it was in talks with potential merger partners from within the kiwifruit industry.
The talks are at a preliminary stage. It did not name potential merger partners.
Satara's share price rose 7.69% to 70c on Friday.
The company said it had engaged an investment banking adviser to review its strategic options. The strategic review is expected to take two to three months.
In July, the company forecast significantly lower earnings for 2010 due to lower throughput at its facilities.
