After a corporate career that included two years as treasurer of the National Gas Corporation and at 33 rising to managing director of AMP Capital Investors (NZ) from 2000-07, Catherine Savage took charge of the family-owned investment company, Savage Group.
It was founded by her father Roy, who died late last year, and owned a number of safety clothing and related businesses (NZ Safety and Alsafe) before selling to focus on private equity.
She is one of the country’s most admired and honoured businesswomen, holding some high-profile directorships. She was on the board of Kiwibank but left that in 2015 when she was appointed chairwoman of the Guardians of the New Zealand Superannuation Fund. She has been on the board since 2009.
Earlier this year, she was named a Fellow of INFINZ (Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand) for her significant contribution to the finance industry.
She is managing director of Savage Group’s CMS Capital, a non-executive director of Todd Family Office, chairwoman of the National Provident Fund, an independent director of Pathfinder Asset Management and a member of the management and trust boards of Samuel Marsden Collegiate School.
