NZX has got the nod for its derivatives market from regulator the New Zealand Securities Commission, paving the way for the launch of dairy futures contracts.

NZX said the Securities Commission has declared NZX Ltd an authorised futures exchange under the Securities Markets Act.

This enables NZX to operate its derivatives market and launch new futures products.

NZX is launching global whole milk powder futures contract on October 8 on the NZX electronic trading platform, GlobalVision. The transactions will be cleared through the new clearing house, operated by New Zealand Clearing Corp.

NZX intends to bring more futures products to market over the next 12 months.
