The Government will reprioritise $1 million of Justice Ministry funding into sexual violence prevention education programmes over the next two years and will provide ongoing funding for the survivor advocate role, Justice Minister Simon Power announced today.

Mr Power also announced the Minister and Associate Minister of Social Development would join him in leading the Taskforce for Action on Sexual Violence.

Social Development Minister Paula Bennett would focus on the operational and service delivery aspects of the Government's sexual violence work and on a stocktake of government spending on sexual violence.

Associate Minister Tariana Turia would link sexual violence work with other family violence work in Whanau Ora.
