Many Christchurch businesses that have been keen to tell the world that they are up and running now have a free website where they can post information.

A large number of firms have sent out memoranda to clients and media but there is still much uncertainty about how and where others have relocated to.

Ian Jones, managing director of BBX New Zealand, said that staff in his company’s information technology department in Australia donated their weekend to create the site.

Auckland-based Mr Jones said he was in Christchurch in a restaurant in Durham Street at the time of the earthquake and saw a church fall down in front of his eyes.

He had also been due to an interview at the now-destroyed CTV studios where many people lost their lives but it had been rescheduled.

“I consider myself a very lucky man. But we were in Christchurch again last week and realised it was very difficult to discover who was in business or where they had relocated to so we decided to set up the site.

It’s not all that flash but we’ll make improvements. More businesses are coming on all the time. We’re asking people to consider mentioning the site where ever possible as a form of community service.
