The Snarknado trailer (above) was a smash hit on YouTube and Twitter, where at one poiint on Friday there were more than 5000 #Sharknado tweets per minute at one point on Friday.
And a number of pop culture pundits saw the made-for-TV movie as the pulp fiction event of the year.
With a tornado, airborne killer sharks, Tara Reid and Ian (Beverly Hills 90210) Ziering, it seemed Snarknado couldn't miss.
And yet somehow it did.
It seemed few Twitterati were willing to take the job as far as actually watching the movie on the Syfy channel.
Just 566,000 18 to 49 year-olds tuned in, according to Variety, and 1.37 million total - putting the wannabe cult hit behind most of the night's programming, including Disney Channel’s Dog With a Blog (2.02 million viewers).
