The government will this month launch simplified tender and contract documents, to be used by government agencies for common goods and services.

Included are the second edition of government model contracts and the introduction of the first in a series of standard tender documents – a government model request for proposal (RFP).

All of the documents are designed to make it easier to do business with government - simple, in plain English and easy to navigate, information posted on the government electronic tenders service website by the Ministry of Economic Development (MED) said.

The updated government model contracts, for low value, low risk common goods and services that are currently used by public service departments will now be introduced to state services agencies, the MED said.

The model RFP will provide agencies with a standardised government tender template, it said.

“It aims to reduce legalese, provide standard conditions of tender and a logical structure for straightforward procurements.”

Also being introduced is a new guide for suppliers on how to invoice, accompanied by a prompt payment guide for government agencies.

To explain how the new documents will make it easier to do business with the government, the MED is holding supplier briefings in Auckland and Wellington during the week of August 15-19.
