Singapore Airlines has grounded three of its Airbus A380 jumbo jets after carrying out an inspection on the planes' engines, according to media reports that have yet to be confirmed by the airline.
The airline says the three planes will be fitted with new engines as a precautionary measure.
Like Qantas, which has grounded its fleet of six A380s after a mid-air explosion in an engine of one of its planes forced emergency landing last week, Singapore uses Rolls Royce-manufactured engines.
Singapore Airlines said today it would continue with the same model of engine, the Rolls Royce Trent 900.
“Based on further analysis of inspection findings, we are carrying out precautionary engine changes on three of our A380 aircraft," a spokeswoman told AAP.
“We are assessing the best options for passengers making connecting flights from Singapore and looking to minimise passenger disruption.”
The spokeswoman denied reports oil had been found in an engine of one of the A380s in London.
Earlier this week Qantas announced its A380s would remain grounded for at least another three days after an investigation discovered oil leaks in some of the engines.
A warning was issued about the safety of the Rolls Royce engines for A380s three months ago.
